Bioethanol is alcohol made by fermenting sugar from plants. In COMBI and POST, you use it as 95% liquid bioethanol: it burns with a lively yellow flame and requires neither electricity, a chimney, nor an extractor fan.

A clean and silent flame

When bioethanol burns, it turns into carbon dioxide and water vapour. There is no smoke and no soot, and the flame does not smell. At the beginning, the glass may fog up slightly from the water vapour; this disappears again once the flame has burned for a while.

Because the flame uses oxygen and produces water vapour, the room must be well ventilated when you use the lamp indoors, and there must be no other open flames in the same room. COMBI and POST are mood lamps, not for heating.

Up to eight hours on a single fill

COMBI burns for around eight hours on 600 ml of bioethanol. The flame starts small and grows over the first few minutes. If you want even longer evenings, you can switch to the 3WICK top-fill and lamp oil: three smaller flames that burn for over a day. Lamp oil may only be used with 3WICK; in the standard burner, oil produces heavy soot.

How to fill COMBI

  1. Let the lamp cool down completely. Never refill it while it is hot or warm: hot bioethanol and air can form a highly flammable mixture.
  2. Place the glass cylinder next to the lamp, unscrew the top ring, and lift off the top plate.
  3. Pour in the bioethanol. Do not overfill, and wipe up spills immediately.
  4. Replace the top plate and screw the ring back on.
  5. The first time, the wick must draw bioethanol for at least 20 minutes before you light it.
  6. Light it with a long lighter or a long match, and carefully place the glass on the glass holder ring.
  7. Extinguish it by placing the lid on the glass, and wait until the flame is completely out. Always keep the lid nearby.

Storage

Use only approved 95% liquid bioethanol, never gel, burning paste, alcohol of a different strength, or kerosene. Store it in a tightly closed container, away from open flames and heat, and do not keep more than 5 litres of flammable liquids in the home.

Bioethanol is not included with the lamp. It is purchased separately; choose 95% liquid bioethanol.
